If your Exchange Activesync is not working with your 3G iPhone, then you have reached the correct spot to fix all of your sync issues.
We keep on reading and hearing about various Windows 2003 Exchange – iPhone 3G sync solutions that are not correct. YES, they are not correct. Basically they will just frustrate you further:
Here are the latest:
- Use the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync Mobile Administration Web tool on the Exchange server - Although this tool is great for managing mobile devices. It truly has no impact on the sync ability of your iPhone Windows mobile device. We would like you to save yourself time and frustration.
- Installing a SSL certificate on the iPhone 3G device – Again, we would like report that this will only frustrate you some more and again take more of your time away from fixing your active-sync / oma sync issue.
- Purchasing a SSL certificate (https) from Verisign, Thawte, Godaddy, etc. is the only way exchange sync setup will work on an iPhone 3G. A self signed certificate on the server will do. By the way, the Small Business Server 2003 Exchange (SBS) does have a wizard which will create the certificate for you. Do not get alarmed when you visit your site receiving an invalid certificate error. This is no reason to purchase an certificate.
- Factory reset of the 3G iPhone. This could benifit you, but typically the settings and software on your phone are correct
- iPhone Firmware update – Going from the origional 2.0 firmware to 2.2 will provide greater compatibility for all of your iTunes applications, however, it does not fix any sync issues.
- Many suggest Windows 2003 Exchange Server does not support IPHONE / Iphone 3G, again, the answer is NO. So you do not have to upgrade to 2007 Exchange or 2008 SBS server to sync your iPhone to exchange
